The city of Lamar is located in Prowers County, Colorado. Lamar is east of Pueblo, on the Arkansas River in southeastern Colorado. State Highway 196 is an 11.4-mile stretch connecting around Lamar to Wiley, and US 287/385 are two concurrent highways that run south through Lamar, which connect Lamar to Springfield.
